Alumination - Our Bi Monthly Update
|
April 2009
|
Spring has sprung! Oxford is truly beautiful at this time of year as things begin to bud and blossom and yes, we do get the occasional day of sunshine too! There has been much new life bursting forth among the students this term which concluded with foot washing and a Passover Meal helping us consider the magnitude of the events of Jesus last week on earth 2,000 years ago
Every blessing this Easter, Simon.

Magnificent!
Simon and Gaynor recently found £3,995 in cash in their letterbox to cover one student's fees for next year - amazing! |
Applications
We have already received 11 applications with another 5 'in the post' for September. We'd love to have 40! Our early booking discount expires at the end of April, so please encourage anyone thinking of coming to apply before then! |
Retreat
The class of 2006/07 have organised a retreat weekend. Tony Gray will be provoking them about being 'priests, prophets and pioneers'. How about organising a reunion for your year-group? |
3rd Place in Indiana... Shane & Erin Good (2004/05)
We recently moved back to Shane's hometown which is quite the mission field! It is the poorest area in our state: drug and alcohol abuse are rampant so we felt like we needed to create a '3rd place'. We bought a storefront downtown and have converted the back half into our living quarters and the front is a coffee shop/community centre. It is right in the middle of town so we get to meet a lot of people and have youth coming in and out of our doors all the time. We also have 20 month old twins we are in the process of adopting. It's been an amazing process, but the hardest thing we've ever done. We have been able to keep in contact with their mom's family, who are battling addictions of all kinds, but God is at work! Their grandma has recently come to the Lord and God is doing powerful things. Their mom is in jail right now but God is after her too. I (Erin) have been put on her visitation list and will begin next week to go and visit her in jail. God is opening all kinds of doors! |

Moving Forward: 2020>vision
We are training our students to put 'Theology in Action' and God has been speaking to us about restructuring our third term to launch students into effective ministry in line with the new UK Salt & Light 2020 vision. Our third term will form a launch pad where students will get lots of opportunity to outwork their studies in practical, hands-on ways both in the UK and overseas. Know of someone this would benefit? We can send them more information, or they can contact us for details. |
Sowing to the Future...
It is our conviction that people from all walks of life have a part to play in
God's mission and are reshaping Term 3 into a number of core tracks to launch students into ministry. We need and would love your help to make this happen!
* Do you have particular insight or connections that would be helpful in shaping one of these tracks? Please let us know!*Can you spare the cost of a couple cups of coffee a month to support us? Every little helps!-> Standing Order Forms can be downloaded here and posted back (it includes a gift aid form). | 'Punk Monk' by Andy Freeman and Pete Greig
This book tells the story of the 24-7 prayer movement from the perspective of two pioneer practitioners who are aware of their own shortcomings. Both thought provoking and practical, they consider historical communities of prayer, mission and justice who sought to transform the world and dare to believe the same can happen today.
They draw from the wellspring of life found in the early church in the book of Acts, the missional endeavours of the Celts and spirituality of the Monastic tradition and seek to apply this to life in the 21st Century. Written in an engaging and accessible style this book will appeal to anyone desiring to develop a rhythm of communal life centred around Jesus and visibly lived in the world covering topics such as hospitality, creativity, prayer, work, rest and play. This book stirs faith to expect extraordinary things to happen as ordinary people call on the name of the Lord!
